Catamaran tannanes delivered to iceland
Icelandic salmon farmer ArcticFish has taken delivery of its first workboat from KJ, in the Faroe Islands. The vessel Tannanes is a KJ 1500-800 model and will be located on the Westfjords of Iceland. The catamaran is fitted with 2 pcs Iveco Cursor C9-380 marine engines Palfinger PK50002 crane, Soundproof 115 kWa generator, 2 pcs 1,2ton capstans, 1 pcs 3 ton capstan and a 15 ton hydraulic winch.
The catamaran will then be the sixth KJ catamaran in Iceland. The first one was build to Sæsilfur in Mjóafirði back in year 2003. The last one before this, Sif, was delivered to Laxar on the eastcoast of Iceland in 2017.
Mr. Ólavur Asafsson Olsen, managing director and CEO of KJ, says there is a big demand for KJ’s catamarans – also from abroad. For the time being, we are building catamarans No 58. and 59.
“From day one, our catamarans have been very popular in the faroese fish farming industry. Now, we are building catamaran No. 59. Most of our catamarans have been sold to fish farmers in the Faroe Islands. But the good reputation of the Faroese salmon industry – has inspired fish farmers from abroad to take a good look at boats and other equipment used by the Faroese industry. As a result, we have exported 20% of our work boats to Orkney, Shetland and Iceland, respectively. This is to our benefit, of course – as the major supplier of boats and seacages in Faroes,” Ólavur Asafsson Olsen says.
